Cause Of Mt. Washington Fire Under Investigation
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Arson investigators say an accidental electrical fire caused extensive damage to two homes this afternoon in Mount Washington.
The blaze broke out around 12:30 p.m. in the 100-block of Estella Street.
Flames and lots of smoke could be seen coming from the homes.
According to firefighters, crews were cutting trees on the street when a limb fell and hit a main electrical line, which then struck another line, causing it to arc.
That sent a power surge into one of the homes in the electrical panel in the basement.
The fire then spread to a neighboring home.
One man was at home when the blaze broke out. He was in the shower, but was able to make it out of the home safely.
A woman was outside and witnessed the incident, but she was not hurt either.
