Horse Racing Expert Dick Jerardi's Kentucky Derby Pick Is "Golden"

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - All eyes will be on Kentucky tomorrow for the 139th renewal of The Greatest Two Minutes in Sports, The 2013 Kentucky Derby.

National horse racing reporter and columnist for the Philadelphia Daily News, Dick Jerardi joined The Fan Morning Show on Friday morning to give his thoughts on the race and his pick.

He says he loves Louisville head coach Rick Pitino's horse, Goldencents who is clearly faster than the rest of the horses. "He is my pick because he can win in a couple of different ways," Jerardi said. "But if you put him in front with no traffic he will be tough to catch."

Jerardi knows a little something about horse racing. He has covered every Triple Crown race since 1987 and every Breeders Cup since 1986.

The odds on favorite is Orb and he likes him but not enough to pick him.

He says this horse has had quite a story as he has gone from someone his own owners didn't beleive in to a Kentucky Derby favorite in just 3-4 months.

He says "It's My Lucky Day" could be his long shot but he is sticking with Goldencents.
