Police Trying To Determine Motive In Duquesne Shooting

DUQUESNE (KDKA) - Allegheny County Police are making significant progress in a double-homicide investigation.

According to police, 18-year-old Tyrone Coleman and 29-year-old Lawrence Short were both shot on Crawford Avenue Monday night. They later died from their injuries at area hospitals.

Monday night, police said two men fled from police in a vehicle as they attempted to pull them over. Lt. Andrew Schurman said two weapons were also recovered, but are not believed to have been used in the homicides.

Additional information was not available as to why police tried to pull over the vehicle the men were in.

Police are not certain of a motive just yet, but there have been developments with that aspect as well.

"The motive is not exceptionally clear, but there is the potential that this is related to a previous shooting and or murder," Lt. Schurman said.

Lt. Schurman also said police have developed possible suspects as well.

Neighbors in the area told KDKA's Heather Abraham that they are fed up with the violence in Duquesne.

"It's violent crime out here nonstop, drug dealers and gang members. What can you do? Our police force just isn't big enough," Duquesne resident David Watson said. "This makes five people that were killed here in the last few years. And three of them [were] in the daytime."

Watson believes people are scared to come forward with information.

Police interviewed neighbors looking for any potential witnesses Monday night.
