3 Accidents Bring Morning Commute To A Crawl

ROSTRAVER (KDKA) – Several accident around the area caused massive backups during the morning commute.

The first accident happened on Route 28 around 6:10 a.m. Two vehicles collided near Exit 15 (Natrona Heights).

Debris was scattered across the roadway after the crash. Ambulances and fire equipment clogged the road just as rush hour began.

First responders helped the victims as traffic was detoured off Route 28 to Burtner Road.

Two hours later, there was another accident on Route 28. That crash happened on the southbound side of the road at the Freeport/Millerstown Road exit.

Three cars were involved and traffic backed up for miles as state police tried to piece together just what occurred.

The third accident shut down Route 51 in both directions Monday morning.

According to police, a 2011 Kia Sportage and 1999 Dodge Neon slammed into each other head-on.

Rostraver Police said the Neon driven by Justine Pike, 27, of Perryopolis, crossed the center line.

Alice Parrish, 56, had nowhere to go.

It would take first responders about 45 minutes to cut Pike out of the wreckage. Pike's lower extremities were severely injured. Pike was then flown to Allegheny General Hospital, with unknown injuries.

Parrish was taken to Jefferson Hospital suffering from chest pains.

The cause of the crash is currently under investigation.
