Man Assaults Woman Walking Down The Street

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A man was arrested Thursday just moments after his alleged bloody assault on a woman in the Oakland-Shadyside area.

Police say a 24-year-old woman was walking near the intersection of Bayard Street and Melwood Avenue around 7:25 a.m. when a man approached her and assaulted her.

The woman told police that without saying a word, 32-year-old James Crick of the Friendship-Garfield area, approached her and knocked her to the ground. He then continued to punch her in the face as she shielded herself with her purse.

Once people nearby came to the woman's aid, witnesses say the man casually walked away.

Police say when they arrived on scene, the woman was covered in blood, had a swollen lip and one of her eyes was nearly swollen shut.

She was taken to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital for treatment.

Very shortly after, multiple witnesses described Crick to police and another unit spotted him along South Craig Street.

Crick was taken to the Allegheny County Jail and charged with robbery and aggravated assault.
