Controversial Fox Chapel Superintendent Steps Down

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The Fox Chapel Area School District Board of Directors Monday night accepted the resignation over School Superintendent Dr. Anne Stephens, effective the end of his year.

Sources said Stephens and the board had been discussing her retirement for several months, and the action now was in no way connected to the current controversy over her credentials.

Stephens has a Ph.D., but not from an accredited university.

In fact, it came from a school that the government closed down, calling it a "diploma mill."

There was more criticism of Stephens tonight, with 91-year-old Toni Uricchio saying she was upset that the school board was using her tax dollars to pay Stephen's salary from a university that was not accredited.
