According to police, the officer was responding to a call at the home there when a vehicle pulled up in front and the gunfire rang out. The police officer had been standing in the doorway of the home.

Police say multiple people were in the home, gathering there after a family member had died earlier in the day. The officer was able to push the person he was speaking to in the doorway out of harm’s way.

The officer reported hearing four to six gunshots.

Police say the vehicle, described as a white Chevrolet Impala, drove off toward N. Homewood Avenue. Investigators searched the area, but didn’t find anything.
