Medical Frontiers: Heart Disease

PITTSBURGH (NewsRadio 1020 KDKA) – On this week's edition of Medical Frontiers, Dr. Gerald Pifer welcomed Dr. George Magovern and Dr. Venkatraman Srinivasan to discuss heart disease.

Heart attack symptoms can range from extreme burning in the chest to constant pressure on the chest. Whether minor or major, all symptoms of a heart attack should be acknowledged and treated immediately.

"Heart attack symptoms should be taken seriously, if symptoms last longer than 15 minutes the patient should call 911 immediately," said Dr. Venkatraman.

Among the various types of heart attacks, silent heart attacks are common. They are similar to chest pains, that don't mimic a heart attack. People tend to overlook symptoms of a silent heart attack because they often don't realize the seriousness of it.

The doctors encouraged listeners to pay close attention to changes in their body.
