Pirates' Success Brings In Lots Of Business, Money

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- There are more ripple effects of a winning season in PNC Park than in the Point State Park Fountain.

"It creates a lot of vibrancy downtown, so those folks who are here just for meetings and aren't making it over to the game they get to see a vibrant downtown area with the restaurants booming," said Jason Fulvi with Visit Pittsburgh.

In other words, we're winning impressing the visitors.

"Our first look, we arrived last night, it was a great, amazing, the river with the light and the building, it's not like a big city like New York or something like that," said Jonathan Trembley of St. Felix Ottawa. "It's still cozy -- it's warm."

And the visitors are bringing lots of green.

"Hotel for four days, figure that a couple hundred dollar there," said Nancy Kozma of Lavonia, Mich.

On average, it's about $2.1 million per home game.

And this series with the Cardinals is far from average, with Redbirds fans converging from all points of the compass.

"I like it," one visitor said. "I've never been here before stadium looks great from the outside looking forward to going in."

"Just the stadium says a lot about the city, it's really nice, our family enjoyed it," said another.

And Pirates fans are enjoying it as well, coming early and often.

"Everybody kind of deserves what they are giving us right now, we're riding the wave while we can," said Damien Gruend of Hopewell.
