Crews Clean Up Sticky Mess On Route 30, Reopen Road

LIGONIER TOWNSHIP (KDKA) – Route 30 in Westmoreland County has reopened this evening after crews spent much of the day cleaning up a sticky mess.

A tractor-trailer carrying cherry lime syrup overturned Tuesday around 6:15 p.m. near Ligonier Township.

As a result of the crash, syrup leaked onto the road and created a mess.

The syrup has a very high sugar content and crews are working to clean it up at this time. Rain would made the water and sugar very slippery on the roadway.

Crews cleaned the eastbound lanes first, then the westbound side.

The road was closed between Laughlinton and the Somerset County line..

Initial reports indicated that the driver was trapped inside the truck. He was flown to Conemaugh Memorial Hospital, but his condition is unknown.
