Man Arrested On Police Assault Charges Remains In Hospital
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - A man was taken into custody at a local hospital overnight after being wanted on charges of assaulting police officers in Dubois.
Thomas Desmond, 22, is currently at UPMC Mercy Hospital. State troopers are standing by, waiting for him to be released and then they'll take him back to Dubois to face charges.
This incident started on Saturday around 9 p.m.
According to police, Desmond was involved in a crash and he tried to take off from the scene. When troopers caught up with him, he allegedly started punching and kicking them.
Police said at one point, it turned into somewhat of a wrestling match two troopers suffered injuries.
They finally handcuffed Desmond and he was transported to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital.
This morning, Desmond tried to leave UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, but was stopped by Pittsburgh Police.
At that point, he was handed over to state troopers and he had some type of episode and was taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital.
State police said Desmond will face charges of aggravated and simple assault, as well as resisting arrest.
When Desmond is released from the hospital, troopers from Dubois will be at the hospital to transport him.
