Pa. Girl At Center Of Target Trunk Suit Has Died

PITTSBURGH (AP) - A suburban Pittsburgh girl, whose parents sued Target after a wicker storage trunk lid fell on her neck and left her disabled, has died.

Martin Lazzaro, a family friend an attorney for Eric and Laura Surman, tells the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review their 5-year-old daughter, Camryn, died Wednesday of complications from her injuries. A private funeral was planned Friday.

The girl had been in a persistent vegetative state since the wicker box lid fell on her July 20, 2009, cutting off the girl's oxygen supply. She was 18 months old at the time.

The lawsuit settled and was sealed by court order.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a voluntary recall for 14 models of the trunk - which the Surmans used as a toy box - because they didn't have safety hinges.
