Suspect In Abuse Case On The Run For 6 Months

NORTH VERSAILLES (KDKA)--- Police have spent the last six months looking for a man accused of hurting a 3-year-old boy in North Versailles.

Police say the man physically assaulted his girlfriend's son - and has been on the run since April.

This suspect, Kenneth Reeves, is accused of assaulting the toddler on April 26, 2013.

The child's bruises were reportedly so bad that the boy had to stay at Children's Hospital for three days.

"I left to go pay a fine and go to work for a couple seconds," says the victims mother. "I came home and Hunter had a little bruise on his cheek. I didn't notice any other bruises. Ken said that he fell off of the couch."

Doctors at Children's Hospital told police the bruises were not consistent with falling off of a couch but may have been caused by a belt buckle.

"I came back to check Hunter and I saw bruises on his bottom, on his side and things like that," the child's mother adds. "Kenneth changed his diaper before I could see all of that."

Kenneth Reeves is 5-feet 9-inches tall and weighs 170 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes.

The good news: the little boy is doing fine but the incident has left people in the neighborhood on edge.

Some say the incident sends a message about trust.

"Be very careful, you know," neighbor Amanda Irwin says. "Watch who you're around and keep an eye on your kids."
