Hit-And-Run Suspect Tracked Down Thanks To Google Earth

HARMAR TOWNSHIP (KDKA) – A man is in custody in connection with a hit-and-run that left a man critically injured in Harmar Township Friday,

According to police, the accident happened around 7:15 a.m. near the intersection of Route 910 and Freeport Road.

A vehicle traveling north on Freeport Road ran a red light and hit 54-year-old Victor Tolbert. The driver of the vehicle did not stop at the scene.

Today, police received a tip about the location of a car that matched the vehicle seen leaving the scene.

They used Google Earth to zoom in the house, and saw the vehicle with the smashed windshield sitting in the driveway.

That's when they arrested Robert Leaf, 47, of Penn Hills.

Leaf is currently being lodged in the Allegheny County Jail and is facing a list of charges including reckless endangerment, leaving the scene of an accident and failure to notify authorities following an accident.

As of Monday evening, the victim, Victor Tolbert remains in critical condition.
