Historian Discusses Lincoln's Unlikely Ally
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Historian Dr. Webster Tarpley once again joined Chris Moore to discuss history that you probably didn't know.
Dr. Tarpley explained how "the Civil War almost became the first World War," and Abe Lincoln's unlikely ally.
Lincoln gave the Gettysburg Address around the same time the Russian Empire decided to free the serfs. European powers were anxious to help the Confederates defeat the Union.
"The only ally the Union had was the Russian Empire," Dr. Tarpley said. The Russian Empire went so far as to send warships to both coasts of the U.S.
