Woman Injured In Police Chase, Crash In Lower Burrell

LOWER BURRELL (KDKA) -- One woman was taken to the hospital overnight and another person was taken into custody after a police chase ended in a fiery crash in Westmoreland County.

It happened around 1:15 a.m. in the 1300-block of Greensburg Road in Lower Burrell after a short pursuit from Upper Burrell.

Fire officials say they found the vehicle abandoned when they arrived at the scene.

"The vehicle had crashed into the fence, was fully involved when we got on scene," said Ted Hereda, of the Lower Burrell Fire Department. "Nobody was in the vehicle at the time. We extinguished the fire, and police pretty much did their work."

Hereda said there may have been up to five people in the car. When it crashed, he said "everybody bailed out of the vehicle."

They reportedly ran into a nearby wooded area.

"I believe there was five people [in the car]. I believe two of them were taken into custody," said Hereda. "They were still looking for the other three. I believe there was a woman that was taken by ambulance."

She called for help.

There's been no word on the severity of her injuries.

Police have not released details on why they were pursuing the vehicle.
