Man Charged In Fatal Murrysville Accident

MURRYSVILLE (KDKA) -- Police have now filed drunk driving and other charges against a Pittsburgh man in connection with an October accident in Murrysville that claimed another man's life.

In addition to DUI charges, 43-year-old David McCormick is facing several counts including homicide by vehicle, reckless driving and recklessly endangering another person.

Francis Cossick, 66, was pronounced dead at the scene of the Oct. 9 accident along Route 22 between Mellon Road and Harrison City Road.

According to the criminal complaint, crash reconstruction investigators determined that McCormick was driving more than 100 miles per hour in a 45 mile per hour zone.

The criminal complaint also reports that lab results showed McCormick's blood alcohol content was .197 percent.

Cossick, of Camp Hill, was behind the wheel of a 2004 silver Volvo.

Police say McCormick's vehicle, a 2008 black Audi, rear-ended Cossick's vehicle in the right lane of the road.

The Volvo sustained extensive damage in the crash, including the driver's side being crushed, according to the criminal complaint. The Audi sustained front end damage.

According to the criminal complaint, "McCormick had slurred speech and difficulty answering questions," and was taken into police custody at the scene.

The criminal complaint reports McCormick told police that "he had at least three drinks and was just going to his ex's house. He also stated he did not know what happened and that it was like hitting a wall."

McCormick was arraigned on Tuesday in Greensburg and is free on $25,000 unsecured bail.

His preliminary hearing is set for Dec. 17.
