Snow, Icy Conditions Impact Morning Commute

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) –Another round of winter weather moved through the area Tuesday and had an effect on the morning commute.

One of the problem spots was Shady Avenue in Squirrel Hill.

The snowy and icy conditions forced traffic to move slowly in both directions and caused vehicles to spin their tires while trying to get up the hill.

"I slid all the way down Ludwick Street sideways almost to the school building," Anne Lawrence said.

A school bus also lost control and slid into a retaining pole near the Minadeo School. Icy conditions near the intersection of Ludwick and Lilac Streets are believed to have contributed to the accident.

Several kids were evaluated at the scene by medical crews.

There were also significant delays on the major highways leading into the city. The worst of the delays was on the Parkway East, which delayed some drivers by up to an hour.

The Port Authority also saw delays of about 30 minutes with its bus service.
