Ferry: Local Rivalries Great For Duquesne

PITTSBURGH (KDKA 93-7 The Fan)-The Duquesne Dukes entered the weekend riding a five-game winning streak after winning their Atlantic 10 opener against Fordham.

Duquesne coach Jim Ferry told Bob Pompeani that his up-tempo style goes back to his days at Long Island.

"It's the way my teams have always played," Ferry said. "It's an up-tempo style of play. We teach these guys to play off of each other. It's really important that we get unselfish kids because if we're going to play this fast and this aggressively, the ball's got to move."

Ferry acknowledged that football has affected some basketball rivalries, but thinks that local rivalries are great for the Duquesne program.

"I want to play Pitt every year, I want to play West Virginia every year, I want to play Robert Morris, I want to play Penn State," Ferry said. "I think it's great for the fan base, I think it's great for western Pennsylvania."
