Some Facilities Affected By W.Va. Spill May Reopen
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Health officials in Kanawha and Putnam counties are working to reopen restaurants, daycare centers and other facilities that have closed because of a chemical spill.
Dr. Rahul Gupta is health officer for the Kanawha-Charleston and Putnam County boards of health. He said Saturday that the health departments are taking applications from facilities for conditional approval to reopen.
Gupta says these facilities must submit a plan to provide potable water for activities such as cooking, serving and washing. Once the plans are approved, county sanitarians will inspect the facilities to verify them.
Gupta says health officials will work around the clock to reopen as many businesses as possible.
State officials have told West Virginia American Water customers in nine counties to not use tap water because of the spill.
