Suspect Injured After Knoxville Police Chase Ends In Crash

KNOXVILLE (KDKA) – A man was injured after leading police on a chase through Knoxville early Wednesday morning.

According to police, the chase started around 3 a.m. and ended with the suspect crashing into two vehicles in the 100-block of Rochelle Street.

The chase started when an officer noticed the suspect driving recklessly and attempted to pull him over. At that point, the suspect took off.

Police believe the man may have been intoxicated at the time.

One of the cars he hit was pushed off the street and up against a house. Fortunately, there was no damage to that home.

"I heard the noise and I knew it was a car that hit, but I just didn't want to believe that it was my car. So, I didn't get up. I was like, 'This can't be real.' And I saw the lights and said, 'It's real,'" Regina Beck said.

The suspect's name has not been released, but he is believed to be from the Knoxville area.

"The driver lost control of the vehicle and he crashed into two parked cars. He caused one parked car to go off the street, into the yard and into a house," Pittsburgh Police Lt. William Mathias said.

Police said he was unresponsive after the crash and was taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital.

"He was knocked unconscious originally. He was transferred down to [UPMC Mercy Hospital] in good condition. He was treated and released and he is now at the Allegheny County Jail," Lt. Mathias said.

He is now at the Allegheny County Jail and is facing a few charges, including DUI and reckless driving.
