Subscription Services Of All Sorts On The Rise

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - There's an explosion of subscription services that deliver just about anything right to your house.

From fashion and beauty products, to healthy and natural products, to baby or bathroom products, it's ready for delivery.

Kristine Sorensen met a local woman who loves the convenience, the savings and the surprise.

Rachel Carlson got make-up, jewelry, tea, a dress and even all the groceries to make dinner without leaving her Dormont home.

Rachel is admittedly addicted to subscription services. She's subscribed to four right now and has tried more.

"It's like Christmas morning. I love getting the boxes, I look forward to it. Sometimes I'll go and track it online because you can track some of the boxes. I mean, I love getting mail, I love getting mail," Rachel said.

Unwrapping the surprise is half the fun.

Birchbox is one of the most popular subscription services. For $10 a month, Rachel gets a monthly box of beauty products. Some are samples and some are full-sized.

"Sometimes I'll go into Alta or I'll go into Target and you just look at those rows and rows of makeup and I don't know where to start," Rachel said.

Birchbox lets Rachel try new products without wasting money.

Rachel's a fashionista on a budget, so she subscribes to Rocks Box, which delivers three pieces of designer jewelry for $20 a month.

"So, I love this style, this kind of vintage style, I love the gold. But, I don't think I would've found this necessarily in some of the shops," Rachel said.

Rocks Box gives you 20 percent off anything you buy, but how do they know what she likes?

With many subscription services, you fill out a profile online, so your packages are tailored just for you.

Rachel spends a lot of time online as the community manager for Yelp. So, it was only natural that she would also get her dinner online too.

Blue Apron delivers all the pre-portioned ingredients for three meals a week for however many people you choose.

It comes packaged in a refrigerated box with a variety of menu options and easy-to-follow recipes.

Each meal is $10 a person.

Rachel loves not having to go to the grocery store as often and she's trying new foods.

Sorensen also tried Blue apron and really liked it.

Rachel also tried a subscription tea service and is now subscribed to a clothing service called Stitch-Fix.

There are lots of subscriptions for men too for things like razors, underwear, T-shirts, health products and even beer.

Most of these services are easy to get out of and you can cancel at any time.
