Punxsutawney Phil Stops By Shaler Library

SHALER (KDKA) – Punxsutawney Phil was in town Saturday.

He stopped by the Shaler North Hills Library so that children and their families could see the furry forecaster up close.

Dozens of families showed up at the library to see Phil and some got the opportunity to give the little guy a pet.

Some members of Phil's "Inner Circle" were also there, including co-handler Ron Ploucha.

"We do lots and lots of visits like this," he said. "This is our way to perpetuate the legend of Punxsutawney Phil."

And in the wake of a bitterly cold winter, Ploucha says Phil's had his share of threats from those longing for spring to arrive.

However, Phil takes it all in stride.

"Phil doesn't cause the weather," he said. "He told us what was coming, and it came and it's still here, so we're hoping that spring will be here soon."
