PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — A woman was hurt and is now facing charges after the stolen vehicle she was driving plowed into the front entrance to UPMC Mercy Hospital late this morning injuring four other people.

The car crashed into the revolving doors just before noon.

According to Pittsburgh Police spokesperson Sonya Toler, the woman likely will be facing several charges including four counts of aggravated assault, as well as auto theft and other charges.

Authorities say she had been discharged from the hospital.

Sources tell KDKA that the patient had been denied “bus tickets” to get a free ride home from the hospital ER and saw the car, but then had trouble driving away from the rounded driveway out front.

As the driver, 34-year-old Nicole Celland, tried to get away, the car crashed into the glass front of the hospital.

“There was a patient here at the hospital who was discharged and decided to hop into a vehicle that she did not own,” said Toler. “The vehicle ended up in the front door here doing extensive damage to the door.”

However, Toler says building inspectors tell her there was no structurally damage done to the building.

The unoccupied car was sitting in a parking area when she got into it, police said. She became trapped in the vehicle after it slammed into the doors.

“After the crash, she was trapped,” Toler said. “The car was kind of in the doorway in a manner where she could not escape, so our emergency personnel did have to extract her from the vehicle.”

She suffered minor injuries in the crash.

There’s no word on the condition of the four others who were hurt, but there didnt appear to be any serious injuries. They were treated in the hospital emergency room.

UPMC never really commented on the incident, but they did have this to say: “The main entrance is for now closed, but operations will continue at the hospital, and the ER is open for business.”
