New Kensington Shooting Leaves 2 Dead

NEW KENSINGTON (KDKA) – A man and his girlfriend are both dead after a shooting Wednesday morning in Westmoreland County.

According to police, the shooting happened in the 400-block of Fourth Avenue around 9 a.m. in New Kensington.

John Russ, 43, of New Kensington, was found dead inside of a white Hyundai. The second victim, Russ' girlfriend, was found dead in the street a few feet away. She has been identified as Shannon Bongartz, 28, of Penn Hills.

Bongartz had been shot multiple times.

"It was like 8:15, 8:30 and I heard this - pop, pop, pop, pop," said Rayette Rosenberger, a neighbor.

Russ leaves behind two young sons.

"Now my kids are left without their dad," said Heather Cline, Russ' ex-wife. "It's just very sad for the children and the people left here to deal with it."

Witnesses allegedly saw a man running from the scene after the shots rang out.

No arrests have been made at this time.

"Whoever did this had it down pat, what they were gonna do and when," said Cline.
