Mike Stack: "I'm Uniquely Qualified To Help Wolf Carry Out Agenda"

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Twice in recent decades, the state's lieutenant governor has had to step in for a sitting governor.

So it matters who holds that job.

Gov. Tom Corbett's second man is Lt. Gov. Jim Cawley.

But who would be lieutenant governor under Tom Wolf, the Democratic candidate against Corbett?

If Wolf is elected governor on Nov. 4, Philadelphia state Sen. Mike Stack will become lieutenant governor, the first one to run the Pittsburgh Marathon, he told KDKA political editor Jon Delano on Wednesday.

Stack: "We got the idea, about five weeks before the marathon, oh I'll run in the marathon. So the only thing I had to do -- oh my gosh -- train. So I got a little training in, and we ended having a lot of fun with it."

Delano: "You completed it?"

Stack: "Completed it. Did pretty good."

The 51-year old was the 1,000th runner to cross the finish line.

Politically, Stack admits he's a New Deal Democrat, citing his grandfather.

"I'm very proud of the fact that my grandfather was an immigrant, and we have such a great country and a great state that he was able to become a U.S. congressman and be one of the congressmen to help pass the minimum wage and social security."

If elected, Stack would succeed Lt. Gov. Jim Cawley, a former county commissioner.

Stack, a 14-year veteran of the state Senate, believes he can help Wolf legislatively on Capitol Hill.

"I'm uniquely qualified to help Tom carry out the agenda," says Stack. "And if you can't get your agenda through the legislature, you're going to have trouble. That's one of the problems Tom Corbett has had."

Voters head to the polls on Nov. 4.
