Blass On Throwing At Teams Who Throw At McCutchen: "If It Costs You A Game, You Got To Do That"

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - Another game, and another team throwing at Andrew McCutchen.

This is becoming a disturbing trend this year, and Pirates broadcaster Steve Blass joined Starkey and Mueller to talk about it.

Blass dealt with these sort of situations during his playing days as he, at times, had to protect Robert Clemente when teams threw at the Pirates' star, and tells us what the Pirates should be doing to protect McCutchen.

"If you can determine that it's not accidental, then priority one before you want to win a ball game or do anything else, you want to send a message to your center fielder," Blass said.  "You want him to know you got his back.  If it costs you a game, you got to do that."

We also talked with Blass about the success the Pirates have had this year and who the team MVP has been.

"I got some candidates, Josh Harrison is a candidate.  Russell Martin is a candidate. Andrew [McCutchen] is a candidate.  [Mark] Melancon is a candidate," Blass said.

Speaking of Harrison, Blass has one person in the world he'd like to be right now as a big pay day looks to be in the near future.

"If I could be anybody in the world right now, I'd be Josh Harrison's agent right now," Blass says.
