PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The newborn infant struck by a hunter’s stray bullet in Indiana County remains in critical condition at Children’s Hospital.

He’s in a medically-induced coma, and doctors now say he’ll be blind in at least one eye.

“I would like everyone to keep praying for him and for his family,” said Beth Sinclair, a family member.

Sinclair, the great aunt of little guy, Shayne Iverson, who was shot last week, is asking for your prayers.

Shayne was just 5-days-old when he was shot and had just arrived home from the hospital.

He was being held by his father, Jeremie, as he sat on the sofa. Then, suddenly, a stray from a hunter’s rifle went through the front window of the family’s trailer.

Two men were hunting red tag deer on a farm right across the road from the Iverson’s home. At first no one was sure what had happened.

“I think they were all in shock, really didn’t know what happened. They thought something hit the glass and exploded,” said Sinclair.

The baby’s father was grazed in the stomach.

But, Sinclair says little Shayne was “struck in the head, and it came out of his eye socket on the other side.”

KDKA’s Brenda Waters: “Is the baby blind?”

Sinclair: “In one eye for sure, yes.”

Sinclair says her great nephew has a long road to recovery and will be in the hospital for months.

Meanwhile, the Indiana County District Attorney told KDKA that he has not determined yet if charges will be filed against the hunter who did have a red tag permit for agricultural deer control.

As for little Shayne, a fund has been set up in his name:
Shayne Iverson Victim Fund
S&T Bank

You can go to any branch and donate money.

The money will go towards Shayne’s medical bills and any other needs the infant has.
