Police: Young Mom Leaves 2 Newborns On Porch, Calls Cops

MCKEESPORT (KDKA) – A young mother could face charges after calling police to say that two newborns were left on her porch in McKeesport. As it turns out, they were her own children.

According to police, the incident took place in the 600-block of Arlington Street on Wednesday.

A woman called police to say that a friend had left two newborns on her porch.

When police arrived, they found the boy and girl on the front porch of the home. One of the children was wrapped in a coat, while the other was wrapped in a sheet.

Police and paramedics "discovered two newly birthed babies. One was wrapped in a coat, the other in a sheet. One male, one female," said a statement released by McKeesport Police.

While officers were speaking with the original caller, it was determined that she was the mother of the children.

The statement from police goes on to say, "Officers discovered information to contradict her statements, and eventually discovered, through investigative efforts, that the caller actually was the mother who had just given birth."

The 19-year-old mother and the two children were taken to the hospital for treatment. Both the mother and children were listed in good condition.

CYF was called to help provide protective custody of the children.

"I feel parents need to be more responsible for what they do and be more caring about their kids," said one neighbor who didn't want to be identified. "If they're infants like that, they don't deserve to be put on the porch and put in danger like that."

Now, the Allegheny County District Attorney's office is looking into the case and will determine if charges should be filed.
