Firefighters Have Trouble Entering Burning Home, Tons Of Newspapers Blocking Door

SCOTT TOWNSHIP (KDKA) – Firefighters were called to a home in Scott Township after it went up in flames.

Heavy smoke was seen pouring from the house in the 300-block of Elm Brook Drive.

Firefighters say it only took about 10 minutes to get the fire under control, but what was piled inside could have kept the flames gong.

From NewsChopper 2, you could see a large tarp filled with hundreds of newspapers pulled from outside the house.

There were lots of papers stacked in the living room, near the sofa, where the fire originated.

Police say a woman lived in the house alone and had to use the garage door to get in and out of the house.

There was no structural damage to the house, but the owner can not return due to smoke and water damage.

Thankfully there were no injuries.
