PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) – Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger joined The Cook and Poni Show on Sportsradio 93-7 The Fan for the #1 Cochran Ben Roethlisberger Show which airs every Tuesday morning at 11 a.m. during the Steelers season.
The Steelers rebounded from last week’s loss to the Jets with a 27-24 come-from-behind road win over the Titans last night on Monday Night Football.
With the Steelers trailing by 11 points late in the game, they turned to running back Le’Veon Bell who carried them to victory.
“It was pretty to watch,” Roethlisberger said. “Sometimes I just hand it off and turn around and watch because of the things he can do, whether it’s power or finesse. It’s truly amazing to watch him and I told him afterwards, I’m glad to have him as a teammate.”
Bell finished the game with 204 yards on 33 carries, which was the fifth best single game performance in Steelers history and the most yards by a Steeler running back on Monday Night Football.
“I think he is one of the best all-around backs in the game because of the way he can catch, block and run,” Roethlisberger said. “Last night he showed what he can do in the running game.”
Roethlisberger said the offense did a tremendous job of finishing the game by imposing their will on the ground to run out the clock just like the Steelers of old.
“When you can impose your will running the ball, it does demoralize defensive lineman,” Roethlisberger said.
Bell’s carries angered back-up running back LaGarrette Blount, which caused him to leave the field early and not celebrate the win with his teammates. It also caused Blount to be released earlier today.
Roethlisberger said he never had any issues with Blount as a teammate and would not be so soon to judge him without knowing the entire story of what happened, but admitted that he was expecting him to be happy for his friend and fellow position player. Ben also told the guys that it’s hard to forgive anyone who gives up on the team or plays for selfish reasons. Ben said it also doesn’t help that Blount was new to the team.
“If it was a guy who has been here awhile and we know it was just a lapse in judgment and he was upset about something, I think it would be easier to look past,” Roethlisberger said. “This is not who the Pittsburgh Steelers are. It’s not what were all about.”
Roethlisberger said the team will support the decision that head coach Mike Tomlin made and will make it work.
The win improves the Steelers to 7-4 as they head into the bye week. It appears that the Steelers are getting the bye at the perfect time.
“I assume we should be getting some of our defensive guys back, we should be getting healthy at the right time to try and make a push,” Roethlisberger said. “I told the guys to enjoy this for about a week because when we come back, we got to dig our heels in and play our best football that we can possibly play. We need injured guys to come back to us. We need guys to start playing their best football and do everything we can to play the best five games of our lives at the end of the season.”
