TARENTUM (KDKA)- Tarentum Police arrested a man accused in a string of robberies in Allegheny County.
According to police, 42-year-old Obayhana Wright, of Wilkinsburg, was pulled over by police in Tarentum Tuesday night for running a red light. They noticed a pair of green gloves, a plastic grocery bag and a black handgun inside his car.
KDKA’s Mary Robb Jackson Reports:
Those three items were used in a series of robberies in the county.
Wright was taken to the Tarentum Police Station, where he eventually admitted to committing all 15 robberies in question.
“They saw him casing another gas station he planned on robbing that nightk, and that was when the arrest was made,” said Assistant Superintendent Jim Morton, of Allegheny County Police.
According to the criminal complaint, Wright wore a black, hooded jacket, a skull mask or bandana and green gloves in each robbery. The complaint also says he used a plastic grocery bag to collect the cash from clerks.
Police say Wright held up stores in Plum, New Kensington, Oakmont, Penn Hills, Pitcairn, Monroeville, Turtle Creek, Forest Hills, Verona, O’Hara Township, Aspinwall and Natrona Heights. Police say he got away with hundreds of dollars in each robbery as well as cartons of Newport cigarettes.
Allegheny County Police were investigating four of those robberies:
1. The Kwik Fill convenience store on Allegheny River Blvd. in Oakmont on Oct. 26.
2. The Stop ‘N Go Convenience Store on Yost Blvd in Forest Hills on Nov. 1.
3. The Sunoco Convenience Store on Freeport Rd. in O’Hara Township
4. The Sunoco Convenience Store on Freeport Rd. in Aspinwall
KDKA’s Heather Abraham Reports:
“The night of our incident was actually Light Up Night in Aspinwall,” said Chief John Sabol, of Aspinwall Police. “So our streets were filled with people, and he was within 50 feet.”
Wright is in the Allegheny County Jail facing a long list of charges.
