Thousands Take Part In 24th Annual Turkey Trot Downtown

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Thousands of runners took to Pittsburgh's North Shore this morning for the 24th running of the PNC YMCA Turkey Trot.

KDKA-TV's resident runner Andy Sheehan took part and said it's the best way to earn your turkey.

The runners, 7,000 strong got Thanksgiving off with a jolt. It was mass of humanity that grows by the year and everyone has their own reasons why.

"It's healthy and it's fun. My wife loves to do it. My daughter loves to do it. I have a bunch of friends down here and it's awesome," Sean Lorenzo said.

Sisters Anna and Maggie Bridges echoed the theme for the day -- run the trot and earn a second helping of guilt-free turkey dinner.

To mark the occasion, many were festooned as turkey's themselves.

Every year, we may get a minute or two slower, but who's counting? The runners are just thankful to have made it through another trot.

You get your big workout in and after that, as they say, everything else is gravy.
