Report: Pirates And Francisco Liriano Agree To Contract
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - According to CBSSports.com baseball writer Jon Heyman, the Pirates and Francisco Liriano have come to an agreement to secure Liriano's return to the team.
Liriano rejected the team's $15.3 million qualifying offer earlier this offseason, electing instead to go into free agency. It's a decision that looks to have paid off in the form of a long-term deal worth $13 million per year over the next three season.
Liriano represents a key starter in the Pirates' rotation for next year coming off a year in which he pitched 162.1 innings and posted a 7-10 record with a 3.38 ERA and 175 strikeouts.
In his last two years with the Pirates, Liriano has pitched over 160 innings each year while compiling a record of 23-18.
With Liriano back in the fold, the Pirates' rotation has proven commodities in Liriano, Gerrit Cole and A.J. Burnett, with a cast of other pitchers such as Charlie Morton, Vance Worley, Jeff Locke and Brandon Cumpton to round things out, unless another signing is made between now and the start of the season.
Jon Heyman is also reporting that the Pirates are still in on another of their former pitchers, Edinson Volquez.
