Pirates Acquire First Baseman-Outfielder Corey Hart

(PITTSBURGH 93-7 The FAN) - The Pittsburgh Pirates have announced the signing of 32-year-old free agent first baseman/outfielder Corey Hart to a one-year deal.

CBSSports.com MLB Writer Jon Heyman has the details on the deal.

In 10 Major League seasons, Hart has a career average of .271 with 220 doubles, 33 triples, 160 homes runs, 529 RBI's and 546 runs scored in 1,013 games.

Hart missed the entire 2013 season after undergoing microfracture surgery on both knees and joined the Seattle Mariners for the 2104 season.

Hart played just 68 games with the Mariners hitting .203 with nine doubles, six runs and 21 RBI's starting 55 games as the designated hitter while also making seven appearances in right field, two at first base and one in left field.

Hart was named a National League All-Star in 2010 after reaching career highs in home runs with 31, RBI's with 102 and runs scored with 91.

Hart will likely give the Pirates at least a platoon at first base along with Pedro Alvarez.

To make room on the 40-man roster, the Pirates DFA'ed right-handed pitcher Preston Guilmet.
