Pat Narduzzi: No QB Controversy At Pitt
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) – Pitt football head coach Pat Narduzzi joined "The Fan Morning Show" Thursday to talk about signing his first recruiting class and preparing for the 2015 season.
Narduzzi downplayed the notion that Pitt could have a quarterback controversy after bringing in Nathan Peterson, a transfer signal-caller from Tennessee.
"[Chad Voytik] is our leader," Narduzzi said. "He's our quarterback right now and for the foreseeable future."
Narduzzi explained that Peterson's addition was simply a function of Pitt needing to add depth at the position.
"When you look at the quarterback situation, there probably might not be a worse depth chart in the country than having two guys on scholarship when you walk in as a head coach," Narduzzi said. "We needed to secure some depth there. If we didn't take an older guy, you guys would be jumping on The Fan in the morning after an early loss of a quarterback to injury, saying they should have took a guy, I don't know why they didn't, instead of why did they. So, we had to secure that."
Narduzzi also touched on the Pitt vs. Penn State rivalry, saying that he tries to use it as a tool to bring in more recruits.
"I think it's awesome," Narduzzi said. "I think kids look forward to it. It's a game on your schedule that the kids are going to look forward to, and I think it's a selling point as you do go around in recruiting saying, 'Hey, listen, we get to play in the ACC, one of the greatest conferences in the country, and we also get to play in-state rival Penn State.' I think that's a plus and I hope it comes back forever."
