"One" Show Highlights Local Dancers

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Dancers and choreographers are coming together to feature and promote local talent.

"This is the first show where we have dancers from all these studios, all these different training programs, all these different professional companies coming together to produce one show that highlights every style of dance," says Tawni Darby, the owner of Millennium Dance Complex.

The original Millennium Dance Complex in Los Angeles is known as a dance home base for stars like Britney Spears, Usher and Justin Timberlake.

The studio here is on Pittsburgh's South Side. It's a drop-in training area.

Aspiring dancers can take a class alongside someone who just wrapped up a world tour.

"Different experiences that come into one class and I think that that's what creates such an awesome opportunity for growth in dancers," said Darby. "We have such a family feel and family culture here in Pittsburgh, so it's really incredible to have the support of so many different dancers."

Darby has teamed up with RAE Productions for the first showcase, called "One."

More than 70 people are performing in it, including Will Thomas from the reality TV show, "So You Think You Can Dance." As well as Darby's sister, Kelsi, who recently performed with Beyoncé and Nicki Minaj.

"Seeing success stories like my sister, you know she grew up dancing in Pittsburgh and decided to make the move and is pursuing a dream of her's," said Darby. "So, it's very inspiring to see dancers that they may have seen in competition locally years ago really go on to do something… that's the goal."

The show is Friday night at the New Hazlett Theater.
