Another Record Falls, But Warmer Temps Expected Next Week

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The temperature plummeted overnight and another record has fallen along with it.

The previous record low for March 6 was 2 degrees, which was set all the way back in 1901.

According to KDKA-TV Meteorologist Dennis Bowman, we broke that record this morning when temperatures dropped to minus-3.

High pressure moved into the area, which kicked out the clouds. It made for a great viewing of a full moon, but it allowed for the atmosphere to become extremely cold with clear skies and calm winds.

Today's high will be 25 degrees with a low of 17.

However, it's not all bad and a glimmer of hope - in the form of a warming trend - is on the horizon.

This weekend, we will see high temperatures of 38 degrees and 42 degrees respectively. A snow shower is possible on Sunday, but shouldn't result in any significant accumulation.

Here's the good news – the start of next week will see temperatures climb into the mid-40s.

So, how does this winter stack up against last year?

Last winter, we saw 63.4 inches of snow, which was 22 inches above normal.

So far this winter, we've seen 45.4 inches.

Last year it snowed on 86 days, while this year, we've seen snow on 77 days.
