Police Investigating String Of Brookline Thefts From Vehicles

BROOKLINE (KDKA) – Pittsburgh Police are investigating a string of reported thefts from vehicles in Brookline.

According to police, a total of 27 thefts have been reported so far. In most cases, the cars were unlocked.

Many of the incidents have happened in the lower part of the neighborhood between midnight and 6 a.m. There are eight streets, all within walking distance, including Bellaire Place and Greencrest Drive.

"Looks like someone tried to get in the one window, but they didn't succeed. We have all been very careful," said Ellie Schaeffer, of Brookline.

Another resident, Kenneth Wilson, says gift cards were taken from his vehicle abut three weeks ago on a very cold morning. But he admits he left his vehicle unlocked.

"I admit I left the door open. I'm at fault for that," Wilson says. "When we got up we found out that they had gone into the truck. I left it open. I didn't want the doors to freeze."

Wilson says he won't make the mistake of leaving the doors unlocked again.

Police are reminding residents to lock their doors and windows, park in well-lit areas and remove all valuables from their vehicles.

Anyone with information about the thefts is asked to call Zone 6 detectives at (412)-937-3051.

If you've been a victim of a theft, call 911.
