Luxury Four Seasons Hotel Chain Exploring Hotel In Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- For travelers all over the world, the name -- Four Seasons -- means elegance, quality, and very personal service for those who stay at the high-end hotel.

"The Four Seasons hotel chain is synonymous with hotel quality and luxury," says Craig Davis, CEO of Visit Pittsburgh.

Now that luxury could be coming to Pittsburgh, as Four Seasons officials will be in Pittsburgh next Tuesday and Wednesday to explore possible locations for a Four Seasons Pittsburgh.

The mayor says he's not surprised.

"Pittsburgh's a very hot destination right now, and it is also a part of a growing economy," Mayor Bill Peduto told KDKA money editor Jon Delano. "Companies from around the world are looking at creating innovation centers in Pittsburgh, and when they come in they need places to stay."

That explains a bit of a hotel boom in the city right now from the just opened Hotel Monaco with its own sense of elegance to a new Hilton Garden Inn being built at the edge of Market Square.

With five hotels recently opened and 10 more expected to open in the next year or so, does Pittsburgh really need another new hotel?

Local experts say the Four Seasons is not quite like any of the others.

For one thing, says Davis, Four Seasons is careful about where they locate.

"There are very few cities that are considered second tier cities that are on their list," says Davis. "They are usually in the major gateway types of cities in the major metropolitan areas, and to have Pittsburgh on their map really says a lot about our city."

And the Four Seasons is pricey -- $350 a night, says Davis, compared to the average downtown hotel rate of a $160 a night.

Delano: "Have you ever stayed at a Four Seasons Hotel?"

Peduto: "I have not stayed at a Four Seasons Hotel. I hope to. I hear they are very, very nice."
