Vet Office Manager To Stand Trial After Allegedly Stealing $269K From Business

HEMPFIELD TOWNHSIP (KDKA) - A Hempfield Township woman will soon go to trial for allegedly stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from a local veterinary clinic.

Jill Lender waived her preliminary hearing today and had nothing to say as she left the district magistrate's office.

The former office manager for K-Vet Animal Care Clinic is accused of stealing $269,447 from the business over the last four years.

The case will now go to trial.

Representatives for K-Vet were present for today's hearing, but they did not comment about the case.

The investigation into the alleged theft started when Lender went on extended sick leave last year.

That's when the clinic discovered something wasn't right.

An audit found discrepancies between the cash, check and credit card payment records and the clinic's actual bank deposits.

In fact, 30 of the 48 months analyzed showed no deposits were made.

Lender also allegedly deleted clinic account transactions in cash from the practice accounting program.

On top of that, she's accused of redeeming $3,200 in vendor reward programs.

KDKA-TV tried to get Lender's side of the story last week, but she didn't want to comment on the case.

Lender is currently free on bond.
