Neighbors Rescue 3 Trapped Inside House On Fire In McKeesport

McKEESPORT (KDKA) -- Neighbors rushed to the rescue as three people had no idea their home was on fire.

The fire started around 6 p.m. on Sunday on Wesley Street in McKeesport.

"I was outside on the porch," said neighbor Guy Cant. "I smelled smoke, looked around the corner and saw smoke coming out of the eve of the house. I ran through my house, grabbed my son, we got in, got them out, got their pets out."

Cant said he found the three people who lived in the home sitting on the couch, watching TV. They had no idea the house was on fire.

"We got inside, you couldn't smell a thing, no smoke, nothing in the house," said Cant.

Shortly after everyone made it out safely, the fire started spreading.

McKeesport Fire Chief Jon List said a crawl space ran the whole length of the home, causing the fire to be stubborn. Once firefighters opened up the crawl space, they were able to get a better handle on the fire.

Nobody was hurt in the fire and the cause is under investigation.

"They were pretty shocked, they have nothing in the house, no insurance, just trying tell them everything will be alright," said neighbor Jay Cant. "They're alive, that's the most important thing."

The house was a total loss.
