Pirates Put Rob Schaill On DL, Call-Up AAA Reliever
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - Pirates reliever Rob Scahill has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with right forearm tightness and the team has selected right-handed reliever Deolis Guerra from the AAA Indianapolis Indians.
Guerra will be making his major league debut Friday night with the Pirates. Signed as a minor league free agent this past offseason, the 26-year-old Guerra went 2-1 with four saves and a 1.23 ERA in 25 games with the Indianapolis Indians this season while allowing just three runs in 25 of his outings which spanned 36.2 innings.
Guerra also hasn't allowed a run in his last 11 appearances.
Scahill has been a serviceable reliever for the Pirates being used in a variety of roles and racking up a 2.08 ERA and 22 strikeouts in 26 innings pitched.
In order to make room for Guerra on the 40-man roster, the Pirates transferred outfielder Andrew Lambo from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day DL.
