Crews To Spray Pesticides Around City After Mosquitoes Found With West Nile Virus

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Allegheny County health department workers will treat city neighborhoods for mosquitoes after some tested positive for West Nile Virus.

Official with the health department say mosquitoes found in Lawrenceville, Bloomfield, Stanton Heights and Polish Hill tested positive for the virus.

Trucks mounted with ultra low volume sprayers will be out Tuesday between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. They'll be spraying a pesticide called Zenivex, which they say is not harmful for humans or pets. They'll be spraying near the MLK East Busway and Allegheny Cemetery.

The health department says most people are not affected by West Nile Virus and that only 20 percent develop symptoms. Of those 20 percent, most can recover on their own.

However, if you believe you are infected with West Nile Virus, you should contact your physician. No cases have been reported yet this year.
