Community Shows Support For Robinson Drive-In At Meeting

ROBINSON (KDKA) -- The Robinson Township Planning Board has already given approval to a plan to sell the property where one of the last remaining local drive-ins is located, and Sheetz wants to build a gas station and convenience store on a several acres of the property.

Monday night, supporters of the Twin Hi-Way Drive on Steubenville Pike showed up at a Commissioners meeting, hoping to convince the Commissioners not to go along with the plan.

Jerry Solnoris, the Twin Hi-Way CEO, said, "There's nothing like this on earth, watching a movie, on a blanket, under the stars, on a warm summer night."

Solnaris said he had petitions signed by 3,700 people, stating that they wanted the drive in to stay open.

Ellen Randal, who brought her small son to the hearing said, "There aren't many places in Robinson that's family oriented and, they, the owners, do a nice job of keeping it that way."

Attorney James McCormick, representing the real estate company involved in the property transaction, told the Commissioners, "Whether this Sheetz project is approved or not, the drive in is not going to be here, the owners of the drive-in are selling the property for commercial development, which will not include a drive-in."
