Canonsburg Man Arrested After Standoff With Police In South Fayette

SOUTH FAYETTE (KDKA)- A Canonsburg man is behind bars after a standoff with police in South Fayette.

Police Chief John Phoennik says around 7 p.m. Sunday night, there was a call for a domestic violence incident along Granite Drive in South Fayette.

Police received reports that a man, armed and dangerous, was inside the home.

After attempting to contact the suspect for about an hour, SWAT was called to the scene.

Around 10:45 p.m., SWAT members used a flash bang and entered the home.

They took 47-year-old Mark Edward Armstrong into custody. Police say he has been living at his girlfriend's home in South Fayette for several weeks.

Police searched the home and didn't find any weapons inside. The girlfriend fled to her mother's home after the domestic violence incident. Police say Armstrong followed her, but couldn't get inside the mother's home.

He went back to his girlfriend's house in South Fayette, and refused to come out.

Armstrong has been charged with simple assault, criminal mischief and harassment. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 21.
