1 Adult, 2 Juvenile Suspects In Custody After 3-Hour Standoff In Wilmerding

WILMERDING (KDKA) -- Police and the SWAT team surrounded a Wilmerding home with their weapons drawn Thursday morning after reports of a burglary.

Units responded to the incident on Commerce Street after neighbors reportedly said they heard shots fired. The standoff lasted for about three hours.

"They are still and we are still unsure, although the shots were fired… where they came from and who the intended target was, if there was an intended target," said North Versailles Police Officer Norman Locke.

One adult suspect, 21-year-old Garrick Marshman, Jr., and two juvenile suspects, ages 12 and 14, are in custody after allegedly breaking into a man's house.

Allegheny County law enforcement responded with the heavy artillery - big trucks, high-caliber weapons, men in fatigues.

The homeowner was not in the house at the time, but later arrived on the scene and gave police his garage door opener. Several members of the SWAT team were seen entering the home through the garage, but they reportedly did not find anyone inside the house.

"Feels a little intimidating," said Jim Gerard, the burglary victim. "I wish I could get in and see what's actually going on here."

It wasn't long before the two juveniles, who are brothers, and Marshman were taken into custody. But police feared someone was still holed up inside. The SWAT team soon learned it was safe and clear.

In the meantime, a member of the SWAT team recovered the homeowner's late father's Masonic ring from one of the suspects.

"Yes it is. That's my father's ring," said Gerard.

Turns out, the ring's sentimental value is priceless.

"It's my dad's ring, is masonic ring," said Gerard. "I got his ashes up there, too. I hope they're still intact."

The owner had several weapons inside the burglarized home. It's not clear if the shots came from one of those guns or from someone else's weapon.
