Pa. Turnpike Near Somerset Reopens Following Multi-Vehicle Crash

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - The westbound lanes of the Pennsylvania Turnpike near Somerset reopened tonight, after a multi-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon, involving as many as 50 vehicles.

Two tractor trailers involved in the wreck caught fire.

Three people were hurt, and sent to area hospitals. Karin Watson of Allenport was driving home, and had just gotten on the Turnpike near Somerset when she got caught in the pileup.

She told KDKA TV News "I was fortunate, because I stopped back far enough that I didn't hit any vehicles, in front of me, and a truck coming behind me, when I saw he wasn't stopping, so I had an area [off the main highway} I was able to drive into."

Watson said "a police officer told me there were about 50 cars involved in the wreck, and there were only three of us that didn't hit anybody, or didn't get hit."

She said "this is the worst accident I've ever been involved in, I think I spent my luck today, there's no need now to the Powerball tomorrow."
