McCANDLESS (KDKA) — The North Hills is booming with new business.
A new tenant just opened at McCandless Crossing, and down the road, renovations at Northway Mall are going full tilt.
The doors closed on the Ross Park Mall Old Navy earlier this week, and opened in McCandless Crossing the next day, the change from mall to strip shopping is a meaningful change of environment.
“We love the plaza, and the opportunity of the night crowd that comes here for the movie theatre, the restaurant business,” said Irena Schultz, Old Navy’s general manager.
Old Navy’s arrival is just the latest in the transformation of the old La Roche College property into a centerpiece of the North Hills.
“Future openings coming are Burgatory, that’s probably somewhere around the end of March,” said Bob McGurk, McCandless Crossing’s project manager.
Across the plaza, Chipotle is hiring.
“We’re doing very, very well. To give you an example, the BJ’s Brew pub is number one in the country, Bonefish [Grill] is running number one in the country,” said McGurk.
Behind the Cinemark, look for a 109-room Spring Hill Suites hotel to soon rise from the ground.
“We also have under construction, we have Texas Roadhouse, which is going in adjacent to LA Fitness,” said McGurk.
Construction is also going on just down the road on the Northway Mall property.
The steel is in place for The Container Store, part of the replacement for Pittsburgh’s original mall.
Called “The Block Northway,” PetSmart already has a brand new building and Marshall’s has a completely renovated home, and construction continues on the rest of the facility.
The two-story anchor will be the home of Nordstrom Rack and Saks Off 5th, just next to The Container Store. Also heading for The Block are ULTA Beauty, DSW shoes, tenants still under wraps, and restaurants which the developer has yet to name.
