Bogus Text Messages Sent Under First National Bank Banner

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - First National Bank is just the latest to have their identity stolen in a bogus attempt by thieves to steal your personal information.

"We're aware of phony text messages to customers and non-customers appearing to come from First National Bank," said Jennifer Reel, senior vice president for FNB.

Text messages like are appearing on many people's cell phones, claiming that there has been unauthorized activity in your bank account.

The text message asks you to click on a fraudulent website to confirm personal data.

Reel says it's not coming from them.

"These texts are not legitimate First National Bank communications. FNB will never request personal or confidential data such as account numbers or passwords through email or text," Reel told KDKA money editor Jon Delano.

These text messages have been hitting cell phones all week to both customers and non-customers of First National Bank

Bank officials say, just ignore them, delete them, do not respond to the information requested.

Reel says these kinds of text messages are not new to the industry.

Delano: "Are you taking any action to try to determine who's behind these?"

Reel: "Yes, we reported these to the proper authorities, and we're coordinating our efforts with them."

But no word yet on who's responsible.
